Dallas Green says that jumping from Alexisonfire, his Canadian hard rock band, to the quieter confines of his other persona, City and Colour, has not been particularly difficult during the past six years.
“The City and Colour thing is very relaxed,” explains Green, 29, who hails from St. Catharines, Ontario, and has released two albums and several EPs (including this week’s “Live at the Verge”) under the City and Colour moniker. “We have tons of fun, and there’s not too much structure to it. It’s pretty easy to just jump into that.
“We don’t even practice before we go out; I have a great group of guys that come with me, friends I’ve known since I was a kid in St. Catharines, and we just got out there and let it happen, and it’s a lot of fun.”
Green will be busy with Alexisonfire this year, which put out a new album, “Old Crows/Young Cardinals,” in 2009. But he’s also itching to get material together for a follow-up to 2008’s well-received “Bring Me Your Love.”
“I’ve had a lot of ideas over the last year for new stuff,” Green reports, “but I haven’t had a chance to get it out and start working on it. I would say there’s about seven or eight songs I’m really happy with, so I’ve got about five or six more pieces I still need to put together.
“I’m hoping ... I’ll have a new record written and recorded to put out some time in 2011. That feels right; the first one came in 2005, the second one came out in 2008, so I might as well stick to that three-year theme.”
City and Colour and Lissie perform at 8 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 16) at the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward Ave. Tickets are sold out. Call (313) 961-5451 or visit www.livenation.com.
