Detroit rockers the Hard Lessons, the Go, the Satin Peaches, Outrageous Cherry and Mick Bassett & the Marthas are among the groups slated to take part in the 8th Annual Sounds and Spirits Olde [cq] Fashioned Holiday Spectacular on Wednesday (Dec. 23) at the Magic Stick in Detroit.
The variety-style show was launched in 2002 by Dave Feeny, who owns Tempermill Studios in Ferndale and also plays in the bands American Mars and Blanche. Since then has raised more than $15,000 for Detroit's Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS), which provides emergency relief and transitional housing for those in need.
Among this year's highlights will be a number of local "supergroup" collaborations, including the debut of Conspiracy of Owls featuring members of the Go, the Sisters Lucas and Wildbunch. Also on tap are: the Davidson Family with singer-songwriter Ethan Daniel Davidson (adoptive son of the late Detroit Pistons owner William Davidson) and Slumber Party; A Kroha Family Smithmas with Muffy Kroha of the Sirens, Jackson Smith of Back in Spades and Danny Dollrod; and Sean Hoen Sleeps Til Dusk with members of Your Skull, My Closet, Shadiamond LeFreedom and Jarrod Champion.
Also scheduled to perform are Silverghost, Friendly Foes, Hounds Below, Allan James and Cold Wave, the Oblesons, the Barrettes, Fawn, Duende!, Amy Gore, the Octopus, the Mydols, Old Empire, the Pop Project and American Mars. Local artisans will also be displaying and selling craftwork.
Doors open at 8 p.m. at the Magic Stick, 4120 Woodward Ave. Music starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $15, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to pass. Call (313) 833-9700 or visit www.majesticdetroit.com.
