* Veteran local rapper Hush will celebrate the release of his new digital album, "The Open Book," Friday (Oct. 23) at Saint Andrews Hall, 431 E. Congress St., Detroit. The 12-track album is newly available at iTunes and is Hush's first full-length release since "Bulletproof" in 2005. Quest Mcody, the Definition and Band With No Name will also perform. * The harmonica will be the star of Friday's (Oct. 23) Detroit Blues Society Harpfest 2009, but it will be blown by some masters, including Tomas [cq] Esparza, Carl Caballero, Brian Smith and the veteran local hero Harmonica Shah. * Jill Jack, Stewart Francke, the Polish Muslims, Dennis Farac and A (Habeas) Chorus Line will perform at Shrineapalooza, a benefit for Royal Oak Shrine Catholic High School's Performing Arts Department at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 24) in the opening event for the school's new Saunders Auditorium. * Local funk rockers Velvet Elvis will bring the noise at a DVD release party for "A Face Full of Sock," a compilation of seven short horror films starring sock puppets, including "Frankensock" and "Sock Puppet Zombies Attack!"
