Paramore Finds Common Interests With No Doubt

Both bands are fronted by female singers, but it’s the guys in Paramore who have found touring with No Doubt to be therapeutic.

“It’s not really venting in a mad way,” says Paramore drummer Zac Farro, “but it’s just the parallels are funny, and the quirkiness of having girls on the road. They’re like ‘Gwen (Stefani) does this,’ and we’re like, ‘Yeah, Hayley (Williams) does that, too.

“They’re not really one of our main influences, but it’s funny how we can kind of relate in that area and how similar we are.”

Paramore, meanwhile, is using the high-profile opening spot to rev up anticipation for the Nashville, Tenn., modern rock group’s third album, “brand new eyes,” [cq] which is due out Sept. 29. It’s playing a couple of new songs at each show, including the first single, “Ignorance,” which will be released on Tuesday.

“brand new eyes” follows the platinum breakthrough of 2007’s “Riot!,” and Farro acknowledges that “there’s always gonna be pressure. We tried to push that aside and just make a record we loved. I think there’s a lot of new directions on the album” And Paramore, whose “Decode” was a hit from last year’s “Twilight” soundtrack, made a conscious decision not to haunt subsequent editions of the series.

“We don’t want to be, like, the vampire house band,” Farro, 19, explains. “It was really fun to be a part of that, and great exposure, but I think ‘Twilight’ was it for us. We don’t want to seem like we’re trying to get in every single movie they put out.”

Paramore with No Doubt and Bedouin Soundclash perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday (July 3) at the Palace, Lapeer Road at I-75, Auburn Hills. Tickets are $80 general admission floor and $20-59.50 reserved. Call (248) 377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
