The Magic Bag in Ferndale will host a double CD release party Friday (May 1) for two of the metro Detroit area’s hottest bands. The Howling Diablos will celebrate “Divine Trash Highway,” the follow-up to 2005’s “Car Wash,” which features guest appearances by sacred steel legend Calvin Cook, Jimmie Bones of Kid Rock’s Twisted Brown Trucker Band, Thornetta Davis and former Diablos guitarist Jeff Grand. Diablos frontman Martin “Tino” Gross also produced “Urban Decay,” the debut album by the Rumpshakers, whose lineup features Chef Chris and Danny Methric of the Muggs. And for free, the club hosts the second round of the 2009 Detroit Blues Challenge competition, with six groups — including the Broken Arrow Blues Band, the Midlife Crisis Blues Band and Jam Society — vying for a spot in the October finals.
