The Magic Bag in Ferndale will host a double CD release party Friday (May 1) for two of the metro Detroit area’s hottest bands. The Howling Diablos will celebrate “Divine Trash Highway,” the follow-up to 2005’s “Car Wash,” which features guest appearances by sacred steel legend Calvin Cook, Jimmie Bones of Kid Rock’s Twisted Brown Trucker Band, Thornetta Davis and former Diablos guitarist Jeff Grand. Diablos frontman Martin “Tino” Gross also produced “Urban Decay,” the debut album by the Rumpshakers, whose lineup features Chef Chris and Danny Methric of the Muggs. Doop & the Inside Outlaws are also on the bill. The Magic Bag is at 22920 Woodward Ave. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $8. Call (248) 544-3030 or visit www. themagicbag.com.

Local dance DJs Paystri and TSE will spin their particular brands of Electro House music at Juice, a dance party that starts at 9 p.m. Saturday (May 2) at the Pike Room in The Crofoot, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. Admission is $5. Call (248) 858-9333 or visit www.thecrofoot.com.

Callahan’s in Auburn Hills will have the blues on Sunday (May 3) — in a good way. And for free, the club hosts the second round of the 2009 Detroit Blues Challenge competition, with six groups — including the Broken Arrow Blues Band, the Midlife Crisis Blues Band and Jam Society — vying for a spot in the October finals. The contest runs 1-5 p.m. and will be followed by a CD release party for the Motor City Women, which will feature guest appearances by Motor City Josh, Howard Glazer and the Broken Arrow Blues Band. Callahan’s is at 2105 South Blvd. Call (248) 858-9508 or visit www.atcallahan’s.com.
