The Pontiac modern rock quintet Atavan kicks off a mostly Midwest tour with a hometown gig Friday (Jan. 30) at the Eagle Theater, 15 S. Saginaw St. Manna and Quail, Forever in a Day, Our Film Star, Saturday Night Shakedown and Lies Like Me also will perform. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $12. The Oakland Brass Band, a Grand Blanc-based ensemble dedicated to British brass band traditions, performs at 8 Friday (Jan. 30) at Berkley High School, 2325 Catalpa St. Tickets are $15, $9 for senior citizens and college students, and free for 18 and younger. Detroit’s celebrated blues-rock trio The Muggs will make a sojourn into Oakland County on Friday (Jan. 30) for a show at the Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. Local rockers Class Three Overbite will celebrate the release of their new CD “Horses For Courses”

Detroit rapper Hush and some of his musical friends, including Jocaine, Hot Sauce and DJ Invisible, will host Jammin’ For Joseph & the MDA, a fundraiser on Thursday (Jan. 5) for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and for six-year-old Joseph Penrod of Commerce Township, who was diagnosed with the disorder a year ago.
