Count Jack Petrilla among the Beatles fans excited about next year’s special Rock Band game dedicated to the Fab Four — even though he plays their music hundreds of times every year as Paul McCartney in the Nashvillebased tribute act Get Back! Cast of “Beatlemania.”
“Y’know, I don’t have Nintendo or any of those (games), but this might change that,” Petrilla says with a laugh. “I might have to see what this one’s all about for myself. I don’t know what to expect with it, but it’s going to be an awesome thing. It’s got me interested, for sure.
“Leave it to the Beatles to be cutting edge on that kid of thing, eh?”
Petrilla and his mates in Get Back! — which was formed in the early ’80s from the traveling company of the “Beatlemania” stage show — are just happy people still want Beatles music in the first place. In fact, he says, the audiences are “getting bigger and greater,” with original Beatles fans on the top end and a new influx of young fans that he figured the Rock Band game will only continue to grow.
“Like anything you kind of figure it’ll eventually die down, but that’s not happening with this,” Petrilla says. “You’ve got these young kids, Generation Xers or whoever, picking up the Beatles ’cause their parents are playing the CDs, or they’re listening to Green Day or somebody like that and they mention the Beatles ...
“They come to Beatles music one way or another. It’s kind of inescapable. The cross-generational appeal is phenomenal. They called them the phenomenal Beatles; this is part of the reason why, I guess.”
Get Back! Cast of Beatlemania performs at 8 p.m. Friday (Nov. 21) at the Palace, Lapeer Road at I-75, Auburn Hills. Tickets are $35 VIP, $25 reserved, $10 general admission. Call (248) 377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
