Homegrown Happenings: Rocktober Fest, Blues At Callahan's and more..

* Detroit's Magic Stick brings in the new month Friday (Oct. 3) with food, drink and music at Rocktober Fest. The evening starts at 6 with a two-hour beer tasting featuring a variety of national brands, along with complimentary German appetizers on the venue's Alley Deck until 11 p.m. SSM, Exit Eyes, Sisik Nation and Stare Into the Sun are slated to perform. * The Detroit Blues Society will hold a release party for "The Best of the 2007 Detroit Blues Challenge Finals" on Saturday night (Oct. 4) at Callahan's, 2105 South Blvd., Auburn Hills. Slated performers include 2007 champs the Espy/Yak Duo, Reverend Robert Sexton, Sweet Claudette, the Justine Blazer Band and Al Lukas. Showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 or $15 with a copy of the CD. * Concurrent with the 10th Annual Blues & Boogie Woogie Festival in Detroit, Border's Books and Music in Birmingham will present a free show with blues and boogie woogie pianist Matthew Ball at 4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 4).
