Interview:
Ex-Korn Guitarist Keeps The Faith With Solo Projects

Appearing at a Border's Books & Music -- as he'll do next week in Birmingham -- is perfectly appropriate for former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch.

After leaving Korn in 2005 after becoming a born again Christian, Welch was on his way towards making his first solo album, "Save Me From Myself," when he got waylayed by writing an autobiography with the same title.

"I was really messed up after all the partying I did in Korn and I just needed time to relax and stuff," says Welch, 38, who finally released the "Save Me From Myself" album in September. "I would do guitars and take six months off and then decided I wanted to change a tone and work a couple months on the tones and so some more guitars and then take more time off...

"And then my book came and I had to write that, so that was another six months. (The album) just kinda got put on the back burner a lot."

Although he left Korn to follow a Christian path, Welch -- who published a "clean" version of the book, "Washed By Blood," in June -- says the album isn't intended as musical ministry.

"I'm just sharing my experiences," explains Welch, who plans a full-scale concert tour later this year or in early 2009. "I don't want to be preachy. I just want to be real, and the songs are real.

"The purpose and the intent of the album was just to tell my story and things that happened to me and share what I went through. I went through a lot of positive changes, so you're going to get a lot of positive feelings from that."

Brian "Head" Welch will be signing autographs at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Border's Books & Music, 34300 Woodward Ave., Birmingham. Call (248) 203-0005 or visit www.borders.com.
