It’s known as Detroit Rock City, but in some quarters — specifi cally Chene Park in downtown Detroit and the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights — it will be Detroit Rap City this weekend.

Chene Park, Chene Street at Atwater Drive, rolls out its Return of the Legends Vol. V, with three nights of hip-hop luminaries rockin’ the mic at the riverside

venue. Nas, coming off the chart-topping debut of his controversial new album, “Untitled,” plays Friday (Aug. 29) with Scarface and Foxy Brown. Busta Rhymes, Rakim and Keith Murray take over on Saturday (Aug. 30), while Salt N Pepa, MC Hammer and Whodini will close things out on Sunday (Aug. 31). All three shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets for each are $65 and $45 pavilion, $32 lawn. Call (313) 393-0292 or visit www.cheneparkdetroit.com.

Out at Freedom Hill, meanwhile, TPain — previewing material from his forthcoming third album, “Thr33 Rinz” — will hold forth with Rick Ross at 7 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 30). Tickets are $54.50-$77.50 pavilion, $24.50 lawn. The venue is at 14900 Metropolitan Parkway east of Schoenherr Road, Sterling Heights. Call (586) 268-5100 or visit www.freedomhill.net.
