Detroit roots rock favorites American Mars perform two shows this week that mark drummer Josh Machniak’s last with the group before he moves to California. The group

plays at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 8) as part of Friday Night Live! at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit. The show is free with a paid museum admission. Singer-songwriter Ben Cyllus, who recently moved from Detroit to Nashville, comes home to headline

D12 member Bizarre raps it up Friday (Aug. 8) at TC’s Speakeasy, 207 W. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti. He’ll be performing material from his 2005 solo album “Hanni Cap Circus” as well as 2007’s “Blue Cheese and Coney Island” and this year’s mixtape “Hate Music.” ChrisCo, Don Juan, Crazy L and others are also on the bill. The Detroit Blues Society will open its pockets for a fundraiser at 8 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 21) headlined by Maine harp player Jason Ricci and his band New Blood, along with Detroit’s Harmonica Shah. Mark Pasman, host of WCSX-FM’s “Motor City Blues Project,” will emcee the event. No particular admission fee is set, but donations will be taken at the door with proceeds going to the DBS.
