The Hot Club of Detroit celebrates the Tuesday release of “Night Town,” its second album of gypsy jazz for the Grosse Pointe-based Mack Avenue Records, a few days early, on Saturday (July 12) at Cliff Bell’s, 2030 Park Ave., Detroit. The Crofoot’s weekly Friday night event blows up even bigger this week (July 11) with Phonotropic’s Wicked Awesome BBQ’D Musical Safari Yeah. The show, which takes up the whole of the Crofoot complex, will feature 10 live acts — including Manna and Quail, Prussia, Allan James & the Cold Wave — five DJs, displays by five visual artists and an art installation by the five-member Man Dude Guy Bro collective. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10, and those arriving between 6 and 7 p.m. will get free hamburgers, veggie burgers and gummi bears. The Crofoot is located at 1 S. It’s a big local rock weekend at Ferndale’s Magic Bag. Fifth Way headlines Friday (July 11) over a bill that also includes Fairchild, Pistol Day Parade and Seven Letters. Admission is $8. On Saturday (July 12), the Beggars will close the show after performances by Freer, the Sapiens and Oscillating Fan Club. Admission is $7.
