The 2008 Detroit International Jazz Festival will present six shows in its Budweiser Pre-Fest Club Series leading up to the annual Labor Day Weekend fete.
Christian McBride, the festival’s 2008 Artist in Residence, will kick off the series on July 22 with Perry Hughes and Dwight Adams at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. The Jesse Palter Quintet follows on Aug. 1 at Detroit’s Music Hall Jazz Cafe, while GEQ plays Aug. 8 at Bert’s Marketplace. Steve Nardella headlines Aug. 15 at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak, the Randy Napoleon Sextet plays Aug. 22 at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit and Sheila Landis concludes the pre-shows on Aug. 22 at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Pointe.
Festival organizers have also announced
additional artists for the lineup, including Johnnie Bassett, the Johnny Allen Quintet, the Buggs Beddow Band, Chris Collins’ Detroit-Torino Project and Marion Hayden. The Second Ebenezer Majestic Voices and Dorinda Clark-Cole will headline the Come Monday gospel program, while Bill Meyer will present a Jazz Digs Labor show just after the annual Detroit Labor Day Parade.
