Detroit's Magic Stick has been named one of America's Best Rock Clubs in Rolling Stone magazine's new Best of Rock issue, which hits newsstands on Friday. The magazine describes the Stick, located at 4120 Woodward Ave., by noting that "pretty much every Detroit band -- from the up-and-coming White Stripes to the Detroit Cobras -- has played Magic Stick, a funky, high-energy pool hall above the GArden Bowl bowling alley." The magazine also cited the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., New York's Bowery Ballroom, Stubb's Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas, and the Norva in Norfolk, Va., on its list. With a capacity of 550, the Magic Stick was tied for the smallest of these clubs with the Bowery Ballroom.
