The historically potent Hamtramck music scene will give itself a deserved pat on the back Saturday with the firstever Hamtramck Music Awards (the Hammies), which take place at 8 p.m. at the Painted Lady, 2930 Jacob St.
Nick Pivot of Cocktail Shake Infamy will host the show, which will feature performances by the Hentchmen and the Polish Muslims, who will also receive the Lili Karwoski Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to the community.
Awards will be presented in eight categories, both straightforward (Best Overall Live Act, Best Recording) and irreverent (Best Band to See Drunk, Best Heckler). Among the nominees are Hi-Fi Hand Grenades, Carjack, the Salt Miners, the Go, Universal Temple of Divine Power and Wolfbait. Winners were chosen by public vote.
