It’s been sixth months since British rockers Editors released their second album, “An End Has to Start.” But the quartet from Birmingham is still buzzing about its debut — at No. 1 on the U.K. charts and atop the Billboard magazine Heatseekers chart for up-and-coming acts.
“Yeah, that was brilliant,” says bassist Russell Leetch. “Not everyone has a No. 1 album. ‘The Back Room’ (Editors’ 2005 debut) went to No. 2, and this one went to No. 1.
“It’s only a number, but it’s still an achievement.”
Leetch, 25, says Editors are still hungry for more notice — particularly in the United States, where the group has made more critical than commercial inroads. It’s hoping to change that, however, with more extensive touring and the release of a new single, “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors,” which was Top 10 in the group’s homeland.
“We’re playing to more people, which is encouraging,” Leetch notes. “We’re trying to cover as much of the States as possible, and that’s good. We enjoy coming over here and playing, and it’s a lot more fun playing two records than one. And we can’t wait to have a third record so there’s even more to play.”
Editors, Hot Hot Heat and Louis XXIV perform Saturday (Jan. 26) at the Majestic Theater, 4140 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $19. Call (313) 833-9700 or visit www.majesticdetroit.com.
