The Goo Goo Dolls have been tapped by the National Football League to perform at Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day football game against the Green Bay Packers as part of the United Way halftime show.

The group, which just released its "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1" album, will perform two of their singles, "Better Days" and "Stay With You."

In an ironic twist, Goos frontman Johnny Rzeznik is a judge on the Fox TV reality program "The Next Great American Band," which last Friday bumped the Detroit trio the Muggs.

Previous Thanksgiving game halftime performances have included Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Mariah Carey and John Fogerty.
