The members:
Cringe is Mike Bailey from Lincoln Park, 23, vocals; Jay Bailey from Lincoln Park, 21, lead guitar; bassist Johnny Henegar, 21, from Wyandotte, and drummer Mike Hitch, 21, from Lincoln Park.
The history:
Brothers Mike and Jay Bailey formed Cringe in 1996, then with friend Tony King on drums. After King, who is now the band’s artist, left for art school a few years later, the band recruited roadie Hitch to play bass. Henegar, a former drummer on the local punk scene, joined in 2002, a person that Mike Bailey describes as "hard working and dedicated to the music business."
What's up with the name:
"The name was pretty much something we were looking for that meant metal in some way," said Bailey. "Cringe means ‘to shrink in fear’ – we thought it was perfect."
The style:
"We have a lot of influences like Type O Negative, Fear Factory, and Metallica when they were cool," said Bailey. "Most people compare us to Pantera and Slayer... they are two of the best metal bands ever, so it must be a good thing."
Got anything recorded?
"Unleashed" is the name of Cringe’s debut album, a 12- song display of its heavy metal sounds. The CD is available at all of the band’s shows, as well as on its official Web site. "After our 2002 tour, we are planning on recording our second album," said Bailey. "It should be finished and available around June or July 2003."
Tell us your future?
"We hope the future has something really good in store for us, like a record deal... something to get us to the next step in our career," said Bailey. "I think one of our long term goals is to get on the Ozzfest tour. We think that once a good amount of people take notice, they will see what it is we have to offer to the metal scene."
