The MotorCity Tones formed in 1997. Since then, they've performed at a wide variety of venues in the Detroit metropolitan area, including the Motor City Casino Stage in Ferndale at the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Lila Jones-Johnson Theatre at Oakland Community College, the Baldwin Theatre in Royal Oak, the Troy Marriott, the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, the Marriott at Centerpoint, Gino's Surf, Oakhurst Country Club, Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle, Memphis Smoke, New Way Bar, The Berkley Front, Bonzai Bob's, The Attic Bar and many more. The MotorCity Tones have organized and performed at successful benefits for tsunami relief and the Give-A-Christmas Year Around Fund. The group has been featured in events such as Warren's Cold Rush winter festival, the Royal Oak Arts Council's Art Active Classic, Rochester's "Girl's Night Out," the benefit concerts for Friendship House, the Coffee Concert Series in Madison Heights, Paul Miles' "Help Your Neighbor Project" and the Orion Township Artist Series. The band has also been heard on WPON-AM radio.
What's up with the name:
The band was originally called The TribTones, as the three original members were all employed at the Daily Tribune in Royal Oak. The band's name evolved to The Tones and then the MotorCity Tones.

The MotorCity Tones contributed two original songs to a pair of Hurricane Katrina benefit CDs by No Cover Productions. One of the CDs, "Blues For Katrina and the McDowell Family," was named "Best R&B/Blues Recording" of the year at the 2007 Detroit Music Awards.
